Boston grew because it was on a navigable section of the river Witham .
The steeple of St Botolph’s church, known locally as the Boston Stump can be seen for miles across the flatlands of Lincolnshire.
This 1955 poster was commissioned by BR as part of their series of ”shipping havens” around the country .
