Buckfast Abbey

This is a classic GWR (1923-1947) Devon Poster

Founded between 1018 and 1147 , the abbey was home to the Cistercian Order until the dissolution of the Monasteries tore through many such buildings around 1539 . At that time the Abbey was looted and destroyed .It was however rebuilt between 1905 and 1937 and today is home to a small self – sufficient community of Benedictine Monks
