Peterhouse College

This is a poster of the earliest and smallest of the Cambridge Colleges that form the famous University. It was founded in 1284 by Hugo de Balsam, who was at that time Bishop of Ely. Nothing is know of Balsam’s background but he was a Benedictine monk at Ely and on the death of William of Kilkenny in 1256 , the monks elected Balsam as Bishop .
