Carlisle-The Pageant

In 1928 , 1951 and 1977 , the City organised a series of historical Pageants to re- enact and celebrate its historic past.

The poster depicted here was used for the 1951 festival ( and part of the post war Festival of Britain ) , and , though signed “ Meekley “ nothing is known about this artist .

The poster shows the King of England arriving at Carlisle , with the Castle and Cathedral dominating the skyline as the backdrop.
