Chester – Old Dee Bridge
This is a superb 1935 GWR Poster , with the Old Dee Bridge in the foreground , painted from Handbridge looking North .
The colouring in this poster is very unusual but makes it quite outstanding and a delight to the eye . Chester was granted city status in 1541 but was strategic long before then . The Romans noted the sweeping S bend in the river Dee with high ground inside one of the loops so built a fort there in 79AD.
