Chester Rows
This is a 1929 GWR portrayal of the famous "Rows ", the origin of the name of which , is not exactly known .
The lower and upper levels are linked by many stone staircases, and although Chester does possess some Tudor black and white buildings , most of those seen in the posters are Victorian copies and restorations .
The walls around Chester are almost complete except for a 100m section , and are the finest example to be seen in Britain .
Artwork by William Russell Flint ( 1880 – 1969 )
