Cornwall
Polperro Harbour
Although it was never served by a railway this beautiful place was targeted by GWR and British Railways as the ultimate expression of Cornwall and images including this one from 1936 , adorned stations all over Britain . This poster is set looking inward from the harbour wall . The river Pol flows through the village and looks benign on a lovely summer's day , but the savage floods of 1976 and 1994 are remembered with dismay in the village.
