Durham Castle
Durham Castle began as a simple structure on top of an earth mound around 1072.
It was developed over several centuries by a succession of Bishops including Anthony Bek( 1284 – 1311 ) and Thomas Hatfield ( from 1385 ). It was rebuilt around 1840 as University student sleeping quarters .
