There were many posters commissioned for the town over the years , but this one , for Southern Railways in 1925 ranks as one of the best . When the railways arrived in 1849 , visitor numbers increased rapidly .The South Downs afford a good deal of protection from westerly winds , so the micro climate is most agreeable , resulting in the town regularly topping the “ sunshine league“
