This is an unusual 1930’s work for LNER, by the master of the unusual – Tom Purvis Very few artists dared to use such blocks of colour to so much effect. It was the marketing skills of William Teasdale - LNER’s chief publicity officer , who had the foresight to include Purvis amongst the “ Big Five “ of artists who were commissioned at this time.
