The Thames – Tower Bridge
This bridge was built over an eight year period from 1886 onwards.
It is part suspension and part bascule - lifting - in order to allow large vessels to pass from the upper Pool of London, down to the sea .
The picture was almost certainly painted in the late 1930’s but was issued as a poster in 1948 by British Railways
