Minehead

This is a 1936 commission by GWR using the headline The Gateway to Exmoor . The Butlins holiday camp here opened in 1962 and was one of the reasons the West Somerset Line was eventually saved Sir Billy Butlin saved the beautiful LMS Locomotive No 6229 The Duchess of Hamilton from the scrapyard and sent her to Minehead as an attraction from where she was moved in 1975 to the NRM in York.
