Rhyl
Money was not plentiful for a decade after WW2, and on Summer Saturdays ,a succession of special Trains brought visitors from the industrial cities of the North West to the North Wales Coast -as advertised by LMS .
Originally , Rhyl used to have a pier , built in 1867 which at the time was an impressive 2355ft long . This was used by steamers from Liverpool and at one time , boasted a railway of its own . As with many of our piers , storms , fire and careless navigation caused its length to be steadily reduced and it was finally demolished in 1972. At its peak in around the early 1950’s, Rhyl was immensely popular because of the demand for a holiday by the sea at a reasonable cost .
