Scarborough
The Pool
This LNER Poster from 1936 shows the South Bay Lido at the height of its popularity .
It is a classic example of how LNER attempted to take advantage of a time of relative prosperity and the new industrial conditions of a reduced working week and paid holidays, which allowed the average working family to escape the grime of industrial towns . Railways gave them the outlet . The style of clothes indicated just how " elegant " it was to go to the seaside !
