This is a wonderfully atmospheric portrayal of Ellen's Isle on Lake Katrine in the Trossachs.

It is a brilliant example of poster art : simple , stylised , colourful and bold , by the master of Impression.

A feature of Purvis’s work was his use of colour in unexpected ways . The sky is yellow and is reflected in the water and into the form of the hills . The composition is classic with strong vertical and horizontal lines and yet the picture is beautifully balanced .
