Cumbria -Shap Fell

The four mile climb with a 1 in 75 gradient over Shap Fell was part of the Lancaster to Carlisle Railway . This 70 mile section took two and a half years to build and was completed in 1846. The Poster here shows the rugged terrain over which the railway had to negotiate .

This is an LMS poster from1925 .
