The Severn at Shrewsbury
The River Severn dominates the town of Shrewsbury. Although this painting portrays calmness and tranquillity , when the river is in full flood after prolonged rain storms ,it is quite a different picture ! This poster , although actually issued in 1948 was most probably painted much earlier as in the early years of British Railways there was little money around for new commissions.
Artwork by Norman Wilkinson ( 1878 – 1971 )
