The Solway Coast

This is a magnificent 1948 BR ( ScR ) poster of Kippford on the Solway Coast .

This viewpoint has us on the east coast of the Firth looking south and epitomises the tranquillity of this beautiful area . The artist was born in Manchester but settled in Kirkcudbright in his mid thirties.

Once again , he is said to have chosen this area to live and work, similar to artists who chose St Ives in Cornwall ,because of the quality of the light as much as for the magnificence of the scenery .
