South Shields
This Poster shows a beach scene typical of its time . It appeared in 1925 when South Shields was ( and indeed , still remains ) a dormitory town for Newcastle upon Tyne. It became , like so many seaside resorts , a haven for the newly “ enriched “ workers of the heavily industrialised city and surrounding areas, to take a break from the dirt , grime and pollution and bring their families out by the new railways, for some sunshine and fresh air .
