St Ives
Sitting in a sheltered hollow at the western end of Carbis bay ,St Ives enjoys one of Britain’s mildest climates, and once the Railways arrived in 1877 , the town changed forever .
It is a very quaint and picturesque town which has been synonymous with artists and sculptors since the late Victorian era in part, because of the quality of the light there .
Despite its railway link , by the early 1970’s St Ives suffered from severe traffic congestion ( which has only gotten worse ever since !) and the decision was made to open a ( Park and Ride ) station at Lelant Saltings , 3 miles from the town.
This is a 1956 poster by British Rail, and one of the last , and amongst the best ever produced , before the introduction of camerawork
