Royal Tunbridge Wells
The clay tiles ( Pantiles ) of the main street were lifted and replaced with stone flags towards the end of the 18 th Century , and the road name changed to “ The Parade”, but a century later, its former name was restored .
The town was used as a target by the railways to promote “ days out “ as it is only 35 miles from London ,and it was long claimed to be Britain ‘s sunniest inland resort. This is a 1957 BR poster .
