Upper Teesdale
This is a 1946 commission for LNER of the upper Tees Valley.
Only the upper section of the Tees ( above Barnard Castle ) is known as Teesdale. The area bordering on the river has a grandeur and desolation with surrounding large expanses of moorland rising to 2500 feet. There are some mills along the course of the river and it is one of these which the artist uses in his composition .
