Whitley Bay

This is a 1929 commission for LNER and shows in highly stylised form, reflecting the art of that period , bathers at Whitley Bay . There was indeed a sea water rock pool there at one time , but it would take a hardy sole to bathe in it at temperatures that predominate for most of the year ! The intention of the advertising however, is to make it look not unlike an evening in the Mediterranean.
