YORK
This is a 1965 York City Council painting of the York Minster from Station Road .
This location is from an area where the walls were punctured when the Railways arrived in 1839. George Hudson , English railway financier and politician who became known as “ The Railway King “, was persuaded to have the railways come through York , so he made his statement by building the first station within the walls.
